{"id":2259,"date":"2012-10-07T19:25:05","date_gmt":"2012-10-07T18:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.scienceforums.net\/ajb\/?p=2259"},"modified":"2012-10-07T19:25:05","modified_gmt":"2012-10-07T18:25:05","slug":"climate-change-skeptics-prominent-in-the-us-and-uk-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.scienceforums.net\/ajb\/2012\/10\/07\/climate-change-skeptics-prominent-in-the-us-and-uk-media\/","title":{"rendered":"Climate change skeptics prominent in the US and UK media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/9\/97\/The_Earth_seen_from_Apollo_17.jpg\/599px-The_Earth_seen_from_Apollo_17.jpg\" alt=\"Earth\" width=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Earth as seen from Apollo 17.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to some new research [1], climate skeptics are given a prominent voice in the US and UK media. <a href=\"http:\/\/reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk\/about\/institute-staff\/james-painter.html\" title=\"James\" target=\"_blank\">James Painter<\/a> (University of Oxford) and <a href=\"http:\/\/open.academia.edu\/TeresaAshe\" title=\"Teresa\" target=\"_blank\">Teresa Ashe<\/a> (University of London) looked at how climate skepticism manifested itself in the print media of the US, UK, Brazil, China, India and France during a 3-month period. <\/p>\n<p>The period included \u2018Climategate\u2019 in 2009\/10 and a second period which covered the IPCC\u2019s fourth assessment report in 2007. <\/p>\n<p><strong>The UK media<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the UK, the <em>Guardian\/Observer<\/em> ran 14 opinion pieces containing skeptical points of view during the two periods. All of which were countered by mainstream environmental  scientists.   The <em>Telegraphs<\/em> ran 34 opinion pieces, over half of which were not contested.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Global warming?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The skeptics that question whether global temperatures are warming at <em>all<\/em> appear almost exclusively in the UK and US newspapers.
