{"id":2728,"date":"2012-12-21T10:56:22","date_gmt":"2012-12-21T09:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.scienceforums.net\/ajb\/?p=2728"},"modified":"2012-12-21T10:56:22","modified_gmt":"2012-12-21T09:56:22","slug":"iops-favourite-images-of-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.scienceforums.net\/ajb\/2012\/12\/21\/iops-favourite-images-of-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Physics World&#039;s favourite images of 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Physics World (IOP&#8217;s magazine) have collated 12  images that demonstrate the visual beauty that can be found in physics.<\/p>\n<p>My personal favorite is this the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Weaire%E2%80%93Phelan_structure\" title=\"foamy\" target=\"_blank\">Weaire\u2013Phelan foam<\/a>, which I reproduce below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.iop.org\/objects\/phw\/news\/thumb\/16\/2\/3\/foam1.jpg\" alt=\"foam\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Weaire\u2013Phelan foam is believed to be  the lowest energy structure for a foam formed of equal-volume bubbles. The foam was created using a special template in a  solution of water and <em>Fairy Liquid<\/em>, with bubbles being introduced by releasing nitrogen gas from a glass capillary.
