They are in no particular order.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>Alfred Russel Wallace<\/strong><br \/>\nBorn \t8 January 1823, Usk, Monmouthshire, Wales.<br \/>\nDied \t7 November 1913 (aged 90) Broadstone, Dorset, England.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/0\/03\/Alfred_Russel_Wallace_engraving.jpg\" alt=\"Wallace\" width=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He independently conceived the theory of evolution through natural selection, which prompted Charles Darwin to publish his own ideas in <em>On the Origin of Species<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brian David Josephson<\/strong><br \/>\nBorn 4 January 1940 Cardiff, Wales.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/4\/4c\/Josephson_Cavendish.jpg\" alt=\"josephson\" width=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He is known as a pioneer of the theoretical undesrstanding of superconductivity. He was awarded 1\/2 share of the 1973 Nobel Prize for Physics for &#8220;his theoretical predictions of the properties of a supercurrent through a tunnel barrier, in particular those phenomena which are generally known as the Josephson effects&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>William Jones<\/strong><br \/>\nBorn \t1675, Llanfihangel Tre&#8217;r Beirdd, Isle of Anglesey<br \/>\nDied \t3 July 1749<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/7\/76\/William_Jones%2C_the_Mathematician.jpg\" alt=\"jones\" width=\"300\" \/><br \/>\nHe proposed the use of the symbol \u03c0 (the Greek letter pi) to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Robert Recorde<\/strong><br \/>\nBorn \tca. 1512,  Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales<br \/>\nDied \t1558 London, England<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/b\/b7\/Robert_recorde.jpg\" alt=\"recorde\" \/><br \/>\nHe introduced the &#8220;equals&#8221; sign (=) and also the &#8220;plus&#8221; sign(+) in 1557.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elmer Gethin Rees<\/strong><br \/>\nBorn \t1941 Llandybie, Carmarthenshire, Wales<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.evi.com\/images\/thumbs\/180\/250\/e0d2678fae101d7087618212d839ea39\" alt=\"rees\" \/><br \/>\nA mathematician who has published in a diverse range of areas including topology, differential geometry, algebraic geometry, linear algebra and Morse theory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lyndon Evans<\/strong><br \/>\nBorn 1945  Aberdare Wales<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fnal.gov\/pub\/today\/images\/images11\/LynEvans.jpg\" alt=\"evens\" \/><br \/>\nProject leader of  CERN&#8217;s Large Hadron Collider.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bertrand Arthur William Russell<\/strong><br \/>\nBorn \t18 May 1872 Trellech, Monmouthshire, UK<br \/>\nDied \t2 February 1970 (aged 97) Penrhyndeudraeth, Wales, UK<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/9\/9b\/Honourable_Bertrand_Russell.jpg\/405px-Honourable_Bertrand_Russell.jpg\" alt=\"russel\" width=\"300\" \/><br \/>\nHe co-authored, with A. N.
