Stellar Black Holes - Some Myths

Well this is something that annoys me somewhat, because there is no need for it.

I’m going to discuss some aspects of stellar sized black holes, these are formed after supernova, from stars of about 20 Solar masses and themselves are about 10 Solar masses (between 5 and 15 depending on which you look at).

Their event horizons are governed by the equation:

r_s = \frac {2Gm} {c^2}

So we get something that is upwards of 15km.

Beyond this point (which is quite small) the black hole as the SAME gravitational effect as any other object with that mass.

So you can have steady orbits.

If the sun magically became a black hole, we would carry on orbiting it, in the same way.
