So I will. Here&#8217;s my list of informal units:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Loons of craziness<\/li>\n<li>Silks of softness<\/li>\n<li>Bats of blindness<\/li>\n<li>Buttons of cuteness. This scale is logarithmic to allow for extremely low cutenesses.<\/li>\n<li>Helens of beauty. You know, Helen of Troy, &#8220;the face that launched a thousand ships.&#8221; (This means that one milliHelen is defined as the beauty required to launch one ship.)<\/li>\n<li>Pies of easiness. (Alternate units include &#8220;as easy as 1-2-3&#8221; and &#8220;as easy as 2 plus 2&#8221;.)<\/li>\n<li>Hatters of madness\/insanity.<\/li>\n<li>Dogs of sickness.<\/li>\n<li>Mules of stubbornness.<\/li>\n<li>Lambs of gentleness.<\/li>\n<li>Fiddles of fitness.<\/li>\n<li>Long-tailed cats near a rocking chair of nervousness.<\/li>\n<li>Greased lightnings of speed.<\/li>\n<li>Posts of deafness.<\/li>\n<li>Doornails of deadness.<\/li>\n<li>Rocks of dumbness.<\/li>\n<li>Tree trunks of thickness.<\/li>\n<li>Clams of happiness.<\/li>\n<li>Beets of redness.<\/li>\n<li>Turtles of social awkwardness.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Hell&#8221; forms an interesting wildcard unit &#8212; things can be &#8220;hot as hell&#8221;, &#8220;loud as hell&#8221;, &#8220;crazy as hell&#8221;, and so on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Suggestions for calibrations for the units are welcome.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You often hear phrases such as &#8220;blind as a bat&#8221; or &#8220;soft as silk,&#8221; but nobody has ever attempted to define all these units.
