Journal Rankings done differently
This article in PNAS shows a different way of ranking scientific publications based on some mysterios statistical quantity called an EigenFactor.
The result is interesting:

Can anybody figure out why Journal of Biol Chem is so much higher than Cell? This surprised me a bit.

Because it is a much bigger journal. Both Eigenfactor (y axis) and Total cites (x axis) increase with journal size.

I guess I’m biased coming from a micro lab where we seek to publish in cell far more often than JBC.
