What Woody Woodpecker Can Teach Us About Football
Kids always ask the best, most basic questions; they haven’t learned yet to pretend to be smart, to be ashamed of their ignorance; they’re just curious about how the world works. And the best scientists ask those kinds of questions too, which is why we might roll our eyes and chuckle a bit when we read about two California scientists who decided to delve into the underlying science of why it is that woodpeckers don’t get headaches.
”Brilliant the mind of a youngling is.” Master Yoda 🙂
Woodpeckers don’t get headaches hole pecking for the same reason people do not wake themselves by snoring. We’ll need a few $million in grant funding to look into that.
How does anybody know woodpeckers don’t get headaches? Has anybody given them an aspirin? The whole of Europe, including children, was on a 500-year bender because the only safe water to drink was fermented beverage. Every morning was an SOP gruesome until they slugged down that first tankard of brew.
Harvey Woodpecker, “I did oak this morning. My head!”
Manuela Woopecker, “I did balsa. No problem.”
How do we know that woodpeckers don’t get headaches? They might accept them as part of their lives.
Had a thought – The fact that there seem to be fewer woodpeckers than most other birds might be accepted as evidence that the female of the species does, in fact, suffer frequent headaches!
