{"id":12949,"date":"2013-01-10T03:00:04","date_gmt":"2013-01-10T08:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.scienceforums.net\/swansont\/?p=12949"},"modified":"2013-01-10T03:00:04","modified_gmt":"2013-01-10T08:00:04","slug":"a-liter-of-light","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.scienceforums.net\/swansont\/archives\/12949","title":{"rendered":"A Liter of Light"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecopreneurist.com\/2011\/09\/14\/an-innovative-and-cheap-solar-light-bulb-lights-homes-in-manila\/\">An Innovative and Cheap \u2018Solar Bottle Bulb\u2019 Solution Lights Homes in Manila<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a really neat solution to the problem of dwellings that could really use passive light; it&#8217;s not truly an alternative to something like the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.scienceforums.net\/swansont\/archives\/12856\">gravitylight <\/a>, which is not passive, but for closely-spaced dwellings that don&#8217;t have much in the way of window real estate relative to the interior area, and lack (affordable) electricity, it&#8217;s just the ticket to light them up during the day.<\/p>\n<p>This is a kind of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Light_tube\">light pipe<\/a> (one version of which is a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deck_prism\">deck prism<\/a> seen on some boats).  I have to think something like this would have been useful for a playhouse when I was a kid.
