If a problem is outside the scope of what they\u2019ve been taught, it\u2019s considered impossible \u2014 even when it actually could be solved with their current knowledge. When a teacher tries to make students think outside the box, she\u2019s accused of testing students on \u201cstuff she never taught us.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The flashback is to excuses I used to hear, of which &#8220;I&#8217;m no good at test-taking&#8221; was a favorite.
