In small bills cash, in that little silk purse. <em>Madon<\/em>\u2019, if this was somebody else\u2019s wedding, <em>sfortunato<\/em>!,\u201d Paulie Gatto, played by Johnny Martino, adds unscripted in his fluent Italian, about the opportunity for stealing at Connie Corleone\u2019s wedding. When Al Martino, as the whimpering Johnny Fontane, cries over the role the big-shot producer won\u2019t give him, and Brando barks \u201cYou can act like a man!\u201d and slaps him, the slap was Brando\u2019s spontaneous attempt to bring some expression into Al Martino\u2019s face, according to Johnny Martino, who had rehearsed with Al (no relation) the weekend before. \u201cMartino didn\u2019t know whether to laugh or cry,\u201d says James Caan.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Also, all the back-and-forth about casting and arriving at Coppola as director.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Godfather Wars A story about the making of The Godfather.
