Reminiscent of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rp-photonics.com\/sisyphus_cooling.html\">Sisyphus cooling<\/a> only with really big magnetic pulses instead of polarization gradients.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The principle is similar to coilguns being developed by the military to launch projectiles, only &#8220;in reverse,&#8221; Raizen says.
