Anyone want to try and guess why blowing on frikkin’ molten Aluminum (or slapping it with a glove) didn’t put the fire out? Bueller?

Gaaah! That video is horrifying to me. The idea of getting molten metal splattered all over ones skin, or eyes, seems to me to be one of the nastier lab accidents one could have.
I have an aluminum foundry in my shop. Leather is your friend when working with molten metal. You should NOT try to pour at anything other than floor level, The floor should be dry sand with sufficient surface area/volume to contain the amount of metal you are pouring. You should preheat to a reasonable temperature any molds that could contain moisture. Surprise is not a reaction one should have in a situation like this as it could have been anticipated. I could go on but pouring molten metal is not an activity that can be taken lightly.
