For children whose adult teeth haven’t shown yet, fluoride still improves tooth enamel, the highly mineralized tissue on teeth’s surface. Fluoride also helps teeth damaged from the decay process and breaks down bacteria on teeth.
Bottled water is not fluoridated. Dentists have enjoyed a resurgence in tooth and middle-aged adult root caries. Uncle Al’s dentist pissed and moaned about how juvenile teeth with fluoridation, when they did get a cavity, were a royal pain to drill into for being so hard. Now rotted teeth are more bountiful with softer, easier work.
Everybody knows better nutrition and oral hygiene reduced juvenile caries, not fluoridation. This is technically called “an illusion of knowledge.”
